I was just starting to root for Paris Hilton, what with her going to jail and all, when I find out she is working on a new reality show with MTV:

According to New York Magazine’s ”The Cut”, which is their online editorial section,

the real Paris Hilton is currently working on a reality show for MTV, in which twenty guys and gals will compete to be her “best friend forever.”

Really?

OMFG, Paris, Really?

I guess I am getting old. The article is actually about how at Fashion Week in India, some of the designers were mocking the attitude of some of the young and fabulous in America. Read it here.

Westfield’s Free Wireless

March 12th, 2008

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to talk for a minute about how lovely the free wireess here at the Westfield mall is. I think it is faster than my office. And I’m at the mall.

No one was at work today so here I am, observing fashions in their natural habitat. Signing off so I can order my Orange Julius….

Paul Pope, an artist known his “slopily brilliant” style in comics and graphic novels, is emerging in the fashion design world. Last year, he did the store art for the SoHo (NY) Diesel store. (Pictured). Recently, he was hired by DKNY to design a line of jeans.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Mr. Pope and the charming urban stalwart of a label met to discuss the possibility of working together, and within 6 weeks, the project was underway.

Mr. Nipon was impressed by Mr. Pope’s wide-ranging creative interests and his pointed technical questions about the line.

Some tasks Mr. Pope worked on are tee shirt designs and patterns for hoodies.

Agyness Deyn - she is the one with the short blond cut, known for her associations with Henry Holland of House of Holland Tee Shirts, and for her independent, punky style. She’s been on the cover of UK Vogue and a group cover for USA Vogue.

Her picture will be in another post.

Today I found out that Agyness has received the “Best Dressed Woman in Britain” award according to Tatler Magazine, bumping Kate Moss after Ms. Moss ruled the list for 2 years.

The entire list, courtesy of http://lucire.com:

1. Agyness Deyn - short haired punky model
2. Kate Moss - Former Best Dressed of Britain, Iconic English Model, Mother of Lily Grace Moss
3. Natalia ‘SuperNova’ Vodianova - Russian model
4. Keira Knightley - Pirate Queen
5. Stella Tennant - Scottish model
6. Anouck Lepère - Curly Haired Belgian model and Lily Grace Moss’s stepmom (see #2)
7. Lynn de Rothschild - Global Entrepreneur

Diva Eve Clothing Swap

February 19th, 2008

Ladies - is your full closet plus your empty wallet bringing you down? Get rid of the old, bring in the new with the 142nd Diva Eve Clothing Swap.

The event is $20 if you pre-register, and for that amount, you can exchange your old but yet still cool and clean clothes for someone else’s. You also get yummy snacks and spa treatments, and a night of mingling with other fashioable but frugel women. All clothes not taken go to La Casa De Las Madres, an anti-domestic violence group in San Francisco.

Guys, you can go for the first bit - the cocktail/spa portion from 7pm on - but the clothing swap is women only, in a separate room.

So, in addition to getting a sack of new-to-you clothes and a belly full of delicious treats, you get a tax write off and the feeling of doing good for your community. Fashion Conscious Ladies, what else do you need?

I think I am going to go - though honestly, I am kind of embarassed by the clothes I have right now, even for a swap. But maybe I’m just looking at them with weary eyes.

I found an article on the Associated Press that I wanted to share with you all, on the subject of changing the average size of clothing for women.

Quoting from this article,

The project is Spain’s latest effort to fight the perception that thin equals beautiful — a belief widely blamed for encouraging eating disorders.

Spain, a long time fashion leader, is seeking to make clothes for Real Women. Supported by the Fashion Ministry of Spain, the movement is intended to promote healthy body images for women, by targeting one of the strongest roots of the problem. Clothing chains have agreed to participate in the size standardizing, stores have agreed to stop using mannequins below size 8 US (size 38 EU), and the government sponsored a high tech study on over 10,000 women. The study used lasers tocreate 3D maps the participants’ bodies. This allows a designer to get an idea of the real tendencies of women’s bodies.

I congratulate Spain for taking the lead on this issue. From ultra thin models who clearly are experiencing eating difficulties to women like me who have NO difficulty eating, but difficulty finding clothes to fit, this is a move that will help to make clothes and people FIT! I feel like I am somewhat of an average sized woman but trying on some of these clothes, you’d think I was the sister of Andre the Giant.

I look forward to seeing clothes from Spain that will ahve 3 measurements - bust, waist, hips, and for those measurements to extend as far as the measurements I have.

Me Looking Fly - and BLUE

January 23rd, 2008

At Mark’s annual Post-Holiday Blues party last Saturday, I got to play dress up a little - Harkening back to the “Which Overpass is this Party Supposed to Be Under?” days, I found some pants that fit at the waist but then just….kept….getting…wider…and…wider until the cuffs were about 50 inches per leg:

Blue Raver Shana

Also note the glowstick.

If I was a Boy Part 2: Hoodies

January 15th, 2008

San Francisco weather almost requires hoodies for guys and girls. You can get away with wearing them over shirts, over dresses, from the most casual to the casually elegant outfit. But the thing about hoodies on girls - I guess I should qualify that by saying: Girls who have bigger bust measurement - is that they don’t quite look right.

Check out Jay-Z in his visit to Africa. I got this photo from http://holamun2.com/. Jay-Z looks great. Shades of yellow, brown, white, screen of a map of the world across the chest - hood falls nicely. But imagine a woman with boobs wearing this hoodie. No good. Just looks like she’s trying to hide herself away.

The issue is, I love hoodies. Embrodiered, printed, plain, knit, insulated - I love the look. Not that they don’t make hoodies for women, but it isn’t the same.

I suppose I’ll just have to admire from afar.
